QGN December Issue 2010

Quilt Gathering Newsletter ~ December 2010 issue

Hello Fellow Quilters~
Welcome to the 4th QGN for 2010. Welcome to winter! Stay warm & safe out there everyone. This newsletter was late as I was sick for quite awhile. Thank you for being patient!
The holidays were just around the corner but we have since celebrated several of them. If I had not gotten sick I would have sent these issues out sooner & included recipes, ornament ideas, gift tag ideas, etc. so future newsletters will include some or all of those ideas. Hope you all are staying warm :-).

Accomplishments & Works in Progress
Please submit pictures of what you are currently working on or what you may have already finished that you would like to share with the group so that we can all admire each other’s work throughout the year leading up to the next quilt gathering. I will be posting the pictures on the website as soon as I receive them. Please send all submissions either to thequiltgathering@hotmail.com or via mail to P.O. Box 1075, Tonasket, WA 98855. Thank you.

Monthly Quilt Pattern
This month the quilt pattern we thought we would share is Town Squares .
Please see the enclosed insert for everything you will need- template, sewing directions, materials list, and all the step by step photos that will be very helpful. The finished lap quilt is 41 “x 49 ½ ”. Enjoy!

Interest & Reading Corner
1. What kind of upcoming events/happenings/festivals are you aware of that you think others might enjoy checking out?
2. Any new quilt or fiber stores of interests?
3. Are there any new books or magazines that you would recommend sharing?
4. We would love to hear from you of what new & exciting things are happening near you.
This month has been a very soggy/slushy/snowy one. Budget wise it has been pretty tricky to get out & about but I did manage to make it to a new find on one of my exploring adventures.

Not sure if any of you have been to the quilt store in Olympia called Canvas Works. I went there in this month and they have some nice prints & a nice yarn collection in there that several of you would probably enjoy.

A new knitting book I would recommend is More Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Haverson.

Group Question
Ideas for the next quilt gathering have been suggested already. How does everyone feel about going camping at a KOA or similar type of place toward the end of June/beginning of July?
Would anyone be interested in having a quilt gathering on a sailboat/boat?? It might be kind of nice to have one with an ‘Ocean/water theme’ for a change. Or how about one with an outdoor theme/camping theme after all Grandma did love going to the forest and snagging new plants for her yard:-).
