QNL October Issue

Quilt Gathering Newsletter ~ October 2010 issue

Hello Fellow Quilters~
This is our second QGN for 2010. Welcome to autumn! A special thank you to all of you who helped setup and take down at this year’s annual quilt gathering but an additional special thank you to Jill for her extra work at setup and Dana, Marie, and Mystic for the extra effort at taking down/clean up afterwards. Everyone seemed to be very pleased with this year’s project – the small wallet.

The holidays are just around the corner and we are all trying to find the right gifts to make for others. The Holiday newsletter will include some patterns for ornaments, how to make your own gift tags, and some holiday recipes. Make sure to check out the festival/upcoming events portion of this month’s newsletter. While waiting for those submissions from everyone I have found some upcoming events around the region.

Accomplishments & Works in Progress
Please submit pictures of what you are currently working on or what you may have already finished that you would like to share with the group so that we can all admire each other’s work throughout the year leading up to the next quilt gathering. I will be posting the pictures on the website as soon as I receive them. Please send all submissions either to thequiltgathering@hotmail.com or via mail to P.O. Box 1075, Tonasket, WA 98855. Thank you.

Please see the enclosed insert for everything you will need- template, sewing directions, materials list, and all the step by step photos that will be very helpful. The finished lap quilt is 46 ½ “x 72”. Enjoy!

Interest & Reading Corner
1. What kind of upcoming events/happenings/festivals are you aware of that you think others might enjoy checking out?
2. Any new quilt or fiber stores of interests?
3. Are there any new books or magazines that you would recommend sharing?
4. We would love to hear from you of what new & exciting things are happening near you.

Recently Aunt Jo, Aunt Mary, & I went to the North Central Washington Quilt Shop Hop that takes place September 30th thru October 2nd. It includes the shops in Omak, Chelan, Waterville, Wenatchee, Leavenworth, Almira, Reardan, Ritzville, Odessa, & Ephrata. We were pleasantly surprised by the shop in Reardan as it normally has in the past been not as great a place to shop but apparently the shop owner has redone how she does business to some extent and had a lot more inventory to select from and were a lot friendlier!
The shop in Ritzville although on the smaller side had a nice selection of books and magazines and some wonderful wall quilts. Of the fabrics she has it was a nice variety. The shop in Waterville has a very nice selection and is very friendly. Not too far up SR 2 and well worth the stop! The shop in Odessa is always wonderful even though she is quite a ways out amongst the rolling hills of farm fields. Several of the shops now are carrying a variety of different yarns too for those of us who like to also knit and crochet. I will include the website for the stores at the bottom of the letter if you wish to check them out.
Group Question
Ideas for the next quilt gathering have been suggested already. How does everyone feel about going camping at a KOA or similar type of place toward the end of June/beginning of July?

Contest
Due to lack of participation for the naming of the newsletter the contest was a bust since there wasn’t any feedback for the naming of the letter. So by default it will stay what it is.
